What is Octenol ?

(1-octen-3-ol) described as 'cows breath in a can', is a remarkable lure for mosquitoes. It is a naturally occurring by-product that comes from plants and some animals, such as cows, that ingest large amounts of vegetable matter.It is irresistible to most species of mosquitoes and is irristable to sandflies and midges who can detect minute fluctuations of CO2 and Octenol in their environment from up to 30 metres away.

What is Lactic Acid ?

Lactic Acid (CH 3 CHOHCO2 H) , a colourless liquid organic acid. It is miscible with water or ethanol. Lactic acid is a fermentation product of lactose (milk sugar); it is present in sour milk, koumiss, leban, yogurt, and cottage cheese. The protein in milk is coagulated (curdled) by lactic acid. Lactic acid is produced in the muscles during intense activity.
